Power Plant Beloit

POWER PLANT BELOIT (2018) - Beloit, Wisconsin! -

Exhibition was… April 20,21,22, (2018) - Beloit Powerhouse

In 2018 I received the Victor E. Ferrall Artist in Residence fellowship from my alma mater, Beloit College. When I was studying at Beloit College, the Wisconsin Power & Light plant was an enigma. It was forever present, but never accessible. When the plant closed, and Beloit College purchased to extend their campus, I took the opportunity to create this piece as a way for citizens of Beloit, WI to be able to visit the space before it was reconstructed. The plant had been open for over 100 years, and I was lucky to have met some of the previous employees and hear their stories. We even included a part of a uniforms. He and his daughter helped stitch this section into the large-scale textile installation.

The project was made from 100% donated fabrics from the Beloit area, and stitched together with the amazing help from volunteers. We worked at the Beloit Public Library, Beloit College and the Merrill Community Center.

The piece was displayed on a massive crane and moved back and forth slowly through the space to give viewers a human scale shift, on how large the building was inside…and how big the piece was after working on it for a month.
