Spectral Locus (2016) : above is the Broadway and Filmore St location in Buffalo, NY - Sponsored by the Albright Knox Art Gallery and AK Public Art
Three building installation in Buffalo, NY. 1) Richmond Ferry Church 2) Broadway and Filmore and 3) Clifton Hall. All the fabric in this installation was donated by people from Buffalo. There were public sewing days held at places such as Starlight Studios, Buffalo Art Studios, Stitch Buffalo, Buffalo Historical Society, Buffalo Public Library and the Olmstead Center for Sight. Over 700+ volunteers helped donated and sew this massive installation!

“ Spectral Locus is Amanda Browder's latest project commissioned by Albright-Knox Art Gallery and supported by the National Endowment for the Arts. In the coming week the multi-site work will be completed, and it will be temporarily installed at three historic buildings in Buffalo, New York: 950 Broadway, the former Richmond Methodist Episcopal Church at Richmond Avenue and West Ferry Street and Albright-Knox’s Clifton Hall. Spectral Locus has been created from fabric collected and donated from all over the Buffalo area, sewn together by a collection of community volunteers. Working with this team supports and encourages collaboration and communication within the artistic process in order to break down preconceived notions about contemporary art as remote or antagonistic. Working with something hands on offers community members a sense of ownership of the piece, and something to be proud of as a maker and a citizen of the town.
The overarching goal is to engage individuals and groups in the mystery of creation. Volunteerism of local citizens and artists is a segue to creating familiarity in contemporary art as well as the individual nature of the neighborhood itself. From material collection to construction and exhibition, I hope to encourage community volunteers to participate in ways that require collaboration and conversation about city, community, architecture and art.” - Albright Knox Art Gallery 2016
