Amanda Browder: Chromatic Hi-Five! ELECTRIC TAILGATE
Calico Gallery, Brooklyn, NY
October 28 - December 3, 2016
opening Friday, Oct 28, 6-9pm in conjunction with Beat Nite Greenpoint

Calico is pleased to present a solo exhibition of work by Greenpoint-based artist, Amanda Browder. Chromatic Hi-Five! ELECTRIC TAILGATE brings a new twist, and an explosive party, to a piece that has been influenced and physically altered by the citizens of different communities where this piece has shown. As a celebration of nostalgic times, ELECTRIC TAILGATE will be a metaphorical vintage photograph, saturated in color, nostalgia and awkwardness. Celebrate its symbolic high-school prom, and make sure to take a selfie to commemorate its transition from teen to adult.
Shown originally as part of the Nuit Blanche / Leitmotif festival in Toronto, Chromatic Hi-Five! was constructed by covering a moving truck with donated fabrics from the area. Later, the piece was altered in Milwaukee with students and re-shown in the snow at the Lynden Sculpture Garden. The artist has reimagined the work for the gallery setting and will replicate the “box-truck” form within the gallery space to create the illusion of a parked vehicle in the room, once again completely wrapped in colorful, geometric abstraction.
